Welcome to our fledgling webpage!
Viking Culture & Combat Study - Based in South Lacey, WA State.
Uglaauga is an incipient 'Viking' group - not a reenactment group as such, but a broad study of both the historical /cultural material and experimental archeology based on the actual panoply of the time. We can experiment with viking weapons and armor when the weather is decent and study their culture and mythos when it is raining. We can make our own period clothing to wear and potentially join up with reenactment groups if they want extra support.
Uglaauga means 'Owl Eye' in Old Norse. This is to set the progression arc - the study is about learning and being able to display what we learn, the definition of wisdom fits in with this framework. As a small new group, there's only a limited visual display I can offer here. For now, I've put a selection of old photographs from my legacy as an instructor. Hopefully, we will grow into a high quality fellowship that can have fun learning stuff AND wearing our viking kit.
The intersections of Scandinavian with Anglo-Saxon, Gael, Germanic and Norman allow the group to include study from a broad range of angles; the most detailed should be the Icelandic, due to their majestic sagas.
You need to be aged 18+ to be involved in this activity!
